Objectives:
To provide an explanation of the different requirements and criteria for hazard determination for consumer product labels in United States, Canada and Mexico. The presentation would discuss the following topics: (1) the applicable consumer product laws, regulations and guidance documents published by each jurisdiction; (2) the regulatory criteria used to determine hazard classifications of consumer products; (3) specific scientific test methods used to evaluate a product’s physical and health risks; and (4) the warning information required on the labels of consumer products which pose hazards determined in the evaluation of the product. The presentation will focus more heavily on determining if a product meets the criteria of one or more hazard categories according to consumer product regulations, and less on the specific label formatting (for example, word placement, font size, layout, etc.). However, the mandatory label elements will be reviewed for each jurisdiction.

Abstract:
The United States, Canada, and Mexico all require precautionary information printed on labels of consumer products that have the potential to cause injury or illness during intended or unintended use. However, because consumer product laws in North America are not aligned with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling (GHS), each country has different regulations and requirements for the labeling of these hazardous products. This presentation explains the different requirements and criteria for hazard determination for consumer product labels in United States, Canada, and Mexico
