This is an introduction to the regulatory framework of chemical management compliance in Chile. The course is designed to provide an overview of the governing laws, regulations, including publications in the daily or national gazette.

 Objectives of the course

Students will learn:

  • Country-specific laws and regulations for import/export of chemicals
  • Legal requirements and compliance for effective management of non-hazardous and hazardous/toxic chemicals throughout chemical life cycles
  • Restricted and Prohibited chemicals
  • Controlled substances and chemical precursor
  • Occupational outlook of the regulations governing hazardous substances and Environment, Health and Safety in the workplace (EH&S).

                          - Customs/Duty regulations and import permit and authorizations

2:45 – 3:30     - Restricted/Prohibited Substances and conditions of importation
                            and manufacturing use

                         - An overview of regulations applied to specific sectors

3:45  5:00     - Effective chemical management compliance and penalties:
                           civil/criminal liability for non-compliance

Marlene Brokering

Marlene Brokering is a lawyer with an extensive work history on matters of international law in Chile and Luxembourg. Ms. Brokering also counsels Chilean companies in matters related the Environmental Law. Ms. Brokering has given numerous lectures in International Trade law and Environmental Law both in Chile and abroad. She has taught at various Universities, such as Pontificia Universidad Católica, Universidad Bernardo O'Higgins and Universidad de Los Lagos on Environmental and International Trade laws.
